The Statistics Research and Information Directorate (SRID) is one of four line Directorates of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The Directorate was established in 1999 (hived off the PPMED) in response to PNDC Law 327, 1991 (i.e. Civil Service Act)
Vision
The vision of SRID is to generate relevant, reliable and timely statistical information on the entire agricultural sector of Ghana through the establishment of an operational food and agricultural statistics system.
MISSION
The Directorate’s mission is to provide relevant, accurate and timely statistics/information on agriculture for stakeholders, to ensure that agricultural production decisions are based on objective and realistic criteria. Further, the directorate exists to ensure that statistics generated for policy formulation, planning, monitoring and evaluation are efficiently communicated within the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and also to the general public.
FUNCTIONS
- To conduct annual crop and livestock survey to generate statistics on area planted, yields and production of various crops grown in Ghana, as well as livestock population
- To undertake periodic assessment of food situation in the country
- Prepare an annual crop budget for major food crops by ecological zones
- Conduct market surveys
- To operate an effective and efficient data management system
